when you work 100% on the web you learn that you cant only benefit from being a designer. In order to maximize your career and salary potential you also need to be an above average web developer. Plus have some knowledge of dba and ecommerce solutions.
I have experienced it myself. Meetings with clients always tend to talk about skills I do not focus on but I was have the answer.
The trend is the 80/20 rule. That 80 percent that you never use can come handy sometimes. So designers please learn some dev
Alex Designs is all about execution. Execution includes web designs, web programming and web hosting. This means I get thing done. Period.
This is not to be confused with product copywriting, determining brand strategies or creating business models. A lot of companies that I work with need help with more than just my execution. They really need to figure out their revenue goals and business models before moving too quickly into a web ecommerce plan.
Today, more than ever, it harder to build traffic on new websites and build leads for a newly names company. The web is all about trust! So why would a consumer buy a product from a small new website when they can go to a big brand like Amazon that they completely trust. Small businesses need to be unique and very dedicated to making the consumer feel special.
what's the point. Lately, I have begin to really evaluate all existing and future clients to determine who will be around in the next 3-5 years. The dedicated clients who really understand their long term business model are the ones I will be keeping. This includes doing the research and development to position their brands, Releasing good PR to stay current and finding great business partners.
This way the clients can handle building their business, while I handle the execution and implementation of the web strategy. I like to focus my skills on the area I know best and this way I can ensure I give 200%. Too many clients want guarantees that I will improve their business, but they don't want to do any work on their side. As a team of your business and my execution, I can help improve your online business.
I signed up for the new service
Dodgeball in Miami today. I want to find out if this is just cool because Google acquired them... we'll see. Check it out below.
If you are signed up in New York or Miami. Add me as buddy: alexdesigns@gmail.com
The New Web ChallengersIf you're on the road and looking to hook up with some friends, use
Dodgeball and your mobile phone to broadcast your whereabouts to your buddies. Send a text message to the site stating your location, and in no time all the pals on your Dodgeball.com network will get the message (you can also send them a photo, if your phone has a built-in camera). They'll find out what you're up to--and where they can join you. And if a friend of one of your friends is within ten blocks, they'll get a message as well.
Too many things going on the last couple of months. Good things tho. Even though i havent posted very much as I havent found the time. You would think you can carve out 20 minutes of your day to post, but you just dont want to. I dont even read my own blog, prolly why my grammar sux. Majority of the time I posted from my blackberry cuz its easier and makes me feel like I am not working.
Lately I have just forced myself to use those 20 minutes of downtime to just take a break, no blog, no phone. Possibly I jump on a bike and get soem exercise or get out the house with my girlfiend to catch a flick. But I defeintly havent noticed that things are changing about my career and what is important.
My life and career are right on track, but changes are happening all the time. All my friends are getting married and having kids. Parents are getting old. Sick of traveling too much and tired of working crazy hours. It defintly gets difficult to balance and stay motivated.
Good things are coming though so I will try to balance some blogs in to. For now I have to dedicate an hour to getting some exercise. Later
