Maximize ROI: Conversion Funnel Design & A/B Testing
I am trying out a couple of online ad serving tools to increase my clients revenue. I may even try it out top increase my own income. The first one I am going to
Improve Website Revenue is Chitika. Here is the overview about Chitika...
Chitika is the industry's leading impulse merchandising company. Chitika was founded in May 2003 and is based in Massachusetts. Chitika helps web publishers generate revenue using innovative publisher-side advertising and merchandising solutions and services.
Maximizing Revenue for Web Publishers
Chitika's flagship service, eMiniMalls(SM), is the industry's first impulse product merchandising service. Based on a proprietary patent-pending product merchandising platform, the eMiniMalls service brings a robust comparative shopping engine to web publishers - all packaged in a slick interactive user interface.
I am not a big fan of Chitika...
I was kind of po when I received a rejected email from Chitika... so I went searching for alternatives.
Chitika turned me down due to not enough traffic on my blog. Fortunately I found a similar service based on a much more fair and open market. DataFeedFile.com is a similar service with much more options and banner sizes to choose from. What I like about DataFeedFile.com is they allow you to choose what merchant to display products for. DataFeedFile.com seems to be a colaboration of hundreds of merchants from the affiliate industry. Check them out yourself, http://www.DataFeedFile.com.

It's a celebration for CSS/xHTML front end developers. Finally the end of MAC IE. Now I never have to test my CSS/xHTML code with MAC IE ever again.
In June 2003, the Microsoft Macintosh Business Unit announced that Internet Explorer for Mac would undergo no further development, and support would cease in 2005. In accordance with published support lifecycle policies, Microsoft will end support for Internet Explorer for Mac on December 31st, 2005, and will provide no further security or performance updates.
Additionally, as of January 31st, 2006, Internet Explorer for the Mac will no longer be available for download from Mactopia. It is recommended that Macintosh users migrate to more recent web browsing technologies such as Apple's Safari.
Honestly, MAC IE Testing was such a pain for 100% CSS layouts. This is a truly a task that was such a waste of time. Now I can just point clients to this link.
Goodbye Mac Internet Explorer
Here is a follow-up to my previous posts about LTV and Order tracking.
So today is the first work day after Christmas and I may be a little ahead of myself, but I have not received any NEGATIVE emails that the e-store I mentioned did not ship their merchandise for xmas. In fact I did receive this postitive email below:
Note, I did receive the merchandise I ordered and am happy with them. In fact I received some extra gifts in my package, so thank you.
Interesting, right. Maybe my friend felt bad that the users were sending the negative emails saying "Are we going to receive out xmas gifts in time?" Remember, they couldn't track their purchases because the new e-store didn't choose to set up the order tracking.
In the end the client made up for their mistakes, so hopefully this new website e-Store has avoided any complaints on epinions or feedback websites. After this lesson learned, I am sure the website will move forward to now set up their standard order tracking. This will improve the overall customer experience and help customers become more happy to improve their LTV.
Happy Shopper = Returning Purchases = High LTV = Long Term ROI
One thing I learned this holiday season is that order tracking is an absolute must. It seems pretty common on most web sites these days, but one of my friend’s websites doesn’t have it. You know, it is that little web form you out your order number into and it shows whether it has been shipped or not. Maybe it was the additional UPS or FedEx charges (if there are any) that made them not set up the order tracking portion of their ecommerce platform. I am not sure of the reasons why they didn’t set it up, but it was a mistake.
I am not going to link to this site, as I don’t want to call them out on a negative issue. So here is the situation... this new website was created about 6 months (May 05) to sell a lot of merchandise during this Christmas. So we ramped up the site... optimized the PPC, doubled the natural search engine traffic from improved rankings and customized the shopping cart experience for a high conversion rate. So it performed very well the last 4 weeks during the online holiday season. I know, I received all the emails of all the orders that went through. Each day 5, 10, 20 web orders. The new site was doing very well and they were very happy.
Now it is the week of xmas and all the confirmation emails have changed to "Where is my order" emails. The orders are "probably" already shipped and on their way, but the customer doest know that. So now all the nervous customers are worried they are not going to have their gifts they purchased for xmas in 5 days. Each email that comes through is pretty much the same.…
"I ordered my merchandise 7 days ago and I am wondering if it will make it to me in time for Christmas. Please let me know or call me if there are any problems. Is there a way to track my order? Please send me a tracking code? I know I purchased it, my credit card was charged!"
They are getting these emails and call because there is no order tracking on their website. Even if the orders do arrive on time, they have automatically created a negative mind set for the customer. More than likely this customer is not going to return and purchase again. With all purchases I tend to ensure there is order tracking on a website before I make a purchase, even though I rarely track my order unless there is a problem.
In the end... they found that you can't spend all of your time upfront on the conversion rate and web marketing. In order to build your online business for the long term, you need to win over customers better. This will then result in the most important metric: life time value ( LTV ). Order tracking is one piece of the puzzle to improve the LTV of your website customers. Get order tracking, it’s worth the ROI.
I totally agree with you! A tracking device is a necessity and will definitely help your website!
Off topic... but I just downloaded this
new blog tool from Performancing. I have been looking for ways to improve the speed of my posting my blogs. I am so busy and rushed all day with work that it is just too hard to find the time to log into blogger, post a blog, edit it, add a picture, yada yada.
This new firefox extension from Performancing lets me post a blog to blogger in seconds. I am actually using it right now to post this entry check out my screen capture below... I am always testing out the new ways I can set up my posts. Like using my phone or blackberry and even using the blog this function. None of those really have worked me yet. So I am going to test out this new
blogger firefox extension. If you are using it too, you can post your thoughts here, email or use the Performancing forum. Good stuff!

This my first attempt at my mobile blog post.
Hopefully it beat logging to my blog from my phone html interface. That was too many steps.

I just started mobile blogging too, but I need a camera phone to start taking advantage.
Here is an example of a website that I recently finished that had nothing to do with conversion rate optimization. This was actually the first that I worked with a client that has a product, but doesn't want to sell it online.
The
Healing and Age Management Vitamins that this website offer are sold and distributed ONLY through doctors offices. So there is no retail possible.
The main concern for this client is "credibility". When you are dealing with high profile doctors and their patients, the website needs to be perfect. The design cant look "cheap" and the text needs to be accurate.
Aside from completely cleaning up the website I also recoded it in CSS, adding
SIFR and Dreamweaver template to easily up the site, and a complete Search Engine optimization strategy which has immediately taken off. Within 60 of launch, all of the main keywords we are targeting are seeing increase rankings.
Now this would be even better if they were actually selling these products retail, but either way they are getting more worldwide exposure. Now that is a hard ROI to track, but the doctors, patients and especially the clients are very happy with the website. Let me know what you think... A
I love alerts... Yahoo, Google, whatever... I just love them. The best alerts are the ones that come through about me. HAHA.. Check out this one I just received:

Ironically, the day after I posted about my new
Holiday Landing Page Design, the product I was referring to and reviewed wins the
GadgetFest Award For Best New Gadget for PhoneGnome in the multi-media non mobile phone category. Wow, I knew the product was great, but this is a timely gift for me. Now I have another great way for me to help the CEO market his product. Here are the details of the Gadgetfest 2005:
TelEvolution is a company that was started by one of the founders of Earthlink, David Beckemeyer. David was easily the most enthusiastic presenter and could barely contain himself describing all kinds of techie acronyms like VOIP and SIP. The product is called the Phone Gnome and is the latest addition to the internet calling world. The long and the short of it is that you buy the device, plug in the phone and the network connection and you are ready to place calls for free to any other number that uses a Phone Gnome. The judges loved the device, the simplicity, and David's enthusiasm, 9 out of 9.

The last few weeks have been filled with many clients rushing to optimize their PPC websites to improve their Holiday Conversion Rates. This includes setting up PPC landing pages, xmas gift buy processes and special offer web banners and email campaigns.
The most recent Holiday Landing Page was for the
VoIP Solution provider PhoneGnome. Originally I helped the CEO offer a very technical product to a more "general/non-techie" audience. Now they asked me to organize a way to promote two special holiday packs that will entice the consumer to spend a little more and give these products away as holiday gifts. This was part of a PPC landing page design project. This particular product hasn't been the easiest to market, because it is very unique. But I was up for the challenge.
Take a look at how I executed this
Holiday Landing Page Design below. After we complete the optimization to improve ROI, I will share the data that I learned. Also, please send me any comments or questions.
